When the European settlers explored Maine, they found two major groups of Algonquin natives -- the Abnakis and the Etchimins. The close relationship between these two groups has resulted in both often being included under the Abnaki (or Wabanaki) name. One of the principal Etchimin tribes was the Passamaquoddy. Members of this tribe still reside in Washington County. The Puffin Pines carries a select number of the crafts hand made here in Washington County, Maine, by Passamaquoddy natives.
