Washington County, Maine, is home to many groups of wildlife, including black bears. Maine's black bear population, estimated at 23,000, is the largest in the eastern United States. Black bears are omnivorous, eating both vegetables and meat. They are opportunistic feeders, eating what is available seasonally. Black bears often are spotted along roads in spring, in blueberry fields in summer, and under apple trees in the fall. They have been spotted within two miles of The Puffin Pines. In recognition, The Puffin Pines carries several items having a black bear theme.

Oven Mitt and Grabbitz - A Microwave Potholder, Black Bear design
The grabbitz is a 9 ½" x 5 ½" potholder with places for your thumb and fingers so you can grab smaller items easily. It is a perfect gift item for microwave users. The thick oven mitt measures 12"x6". The 8" square potholder is no longer available. All are 50% cotton and 50% polyester and are made by Stevens Linen.

Pajamas, Adult, Moose and Bear
These are 100% combed cotton pajamas. They have a repeating pattern of moose and bear heads and moose and bear footprints. The design is permanently dyed into the fabric; it will not fade or run. This is a "mix and match" outfit. The 4-button tops come in sizes S, M, L, and XL. The one-button fly bottoms have a drawstring waist; they also come in S (M:36-38; W:4-6), M (M:32-34; W:8-10), L (M:36-38; W:12-14), and XL (M:40-42; W:16-18). Slates (Maine-made)
These are hand-painted, old slate, roof shingles quarried in the Monson- Brownville area northwest of Bangor. The slate was used as, or as part of, a roof shingle in the 1800s. These slate shingles are not being made any more.
The slates are hand painted by a Maine artist. Scenes or sayings on the slates can be painted (within reason) per customer request at NO additional charge. Please click on Hanging Things for examples and prices. If you have a special request, please describe it on the back of the order form.
