Maine is a haven for artists of many types. Painters and carvers, pottery and basket makers, weavers and glass blowers, musicians and actors, photographers and jewelry makers, sculptors and needle workers, wood and metal workers, leather and bead workers abound throughout the State. Washington County itself, especially along the coastal route U.S. 1, boasts many fine artists, galleries, studios, & arts and craft shows.

The Puffin Pines Country Gift Store carries a variety of work by Maine artists and artisans. This section of the web site contains prints of original art. New work may be added periodically. All works of art in this section are made in Maine.

Prints of original art by Joyce Dubay

Joyce Dubay is a native Mainer who paints in a realistic style. Working with different subjects and a variety of painting techniques - though primarily in oil, Ms. Dubay strives to capture the quiet beauty of the Cobscook Bay region when working in Down East Maine. She captures scenes inspired by rural Maine beauty. Ms. Dubay has won many awards in her 35 years of painting. A few include eleven "Best of Show" awards in 14 years (juried and non-juried shows), two juried admissions into international art exchange exhibits (Canada, France), and the prestigious poster contest for the 2001 Common Ground Fair in Unity, Maine. Her work is exhibited in several galleries throughout Maine. Ms. Dubay teaches oil painting in Farmington, Maine.

Fred Hartman, a retired professional wildlife biologist, and Patty are a husband-wife team of award-winning artists specializing in original artwork, prints, notepads, and note cards of Maine wildlife, lighthouses, and scenic views. As their business name makes clear, their work captures the sights of Down East Maine. Members of many associations, including the Penobscot Bay Carvers and Artists Association, The Nature Conservancy, Cobscook Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, Ducks Unlimited, and The Wildlife Society, their work is on display in banks, hospitals, restaurants, the University of Maine-Machias, and in shops, stores, and businesses in 4 Counties in Maine.
